CASA de Maryland: The mission of CASA of Maryland, Inc., is to improve the quality of life and social and economic well-being of the low-income Latino and immigrant community. HSF made a special one-time, 18-month grant of $37,500 to support CASA's Trabajadores con Poder project to organize Washington DC Area day laborers, domestic workers and other low-wage workers into communities that lead campaigns to maintain access to driver's licenses, protect day labor centers, promote civic participation and advocate for measures to protect the labor rights of domestic workers and legalization for undocumented immigrants.

DC Jobs w/ Justice: DC Jobs with Justice (DC JwJ) is a coalition of labor unions, community groups, religious organizations and student groups dedicated to building power for working families in Washington , DC . HSF made a $20,000 grant to DC JwJ to advance accountable economic development and community benefit agreements in the District, help organize building workers (such as security guards, parking attendants, cleaners, etc.), and connecting youth to jobs in the transportation sector.

Empower DC!: Empower DC's mission is to improve, enhance and promote the self-advocacy of low- and moderate-income residents of the District of Columbia in order to bring about sustained improvement in their quality of life. HSF made a $20,000 grant to Empower DC to expand its membership base and engage members in issue-oriented leadership development activities, and to continue advocacy and community education around affordable child care and affordable housing.

ONE DC: Organizing Neighborhood Equity in DC (ONE DC) combines popular education, grassroots organizing and alternative economic development to position long time, low-income District residents of color to engage community development from a position of strength. HSF made a grant of $20,000 to ONE DC to monitor the implementation of Community Benefits Agreements (CBA), pursue a policy to require a CBA process in all public development, cultivate stronger tenants associations and offer members organizing training opportunities.

Washington DC ACORN: Washington DC ACORN builds leaders in low- and moderate-income communities through coordinating neighborhood-based and District-wide issue campaigns aimed at increasing residents' power and ultimately improving their quality of life. HSF made a $10,000 grant to DC ACORN to continue campaigns to increase the availability of affordable housing in Washington DC ; ensure community benefits to residents in areas with massive retail development; and strengthen their membership base, particularly in Anacostia, Columbia Heights and Trinidad .
