Democracy and Empowerment in the Nation's Capital: A Funder's Briefing
The Democracy and Empowerment in DC funders briefing seeks to engage local and national funders in looking at the District as more than just the seat of Congress, the White House and national lobbying and research groups, but a major American city with critical needs and burgeoning opportunities for social justice. The event will address the intersection DC’s lack of voting rights, fiscal and legislative autonomy and the impact this has on low and moderate communities and highlight the work to secure voting representation and the efforts of local community organizing groups to secure progressive change for low income District residents. Finally, we will begin to develop a vision for what it would mean for the DC, the region and the country, if our nation’s capital had full democratic rights and autonomy and a well resourced, vibrant community organizing infrastructure.
